Pisgah Backcountry for Wheelchair Users

Lane County Parks has completed two projects that open 1.3 miles more of the Mount Pisgah backcountry to adventurous wheelchair users.

1. Distance, 2.16 miles out and back, Elevation gain, approx. 50 feet. Surface, packed fine rock chips.

Pisgah's finest rest area, with a huge panorama of Pisgah itself, sits near the west end of this route. Going the entire distance likely requires proper training and equipment, but with forests, meadows and sweeping panoramas, this universal-access route could well become THE local place where wheelchair users get out in nature.

2. Lane County Parks has improved accessibility on the upper .47 miles of Mount Pisgah’s main route. This project smoothed out bedrock knobs in the trail, and added gravel in places. Now, it appears off-road mobility devices can make it to the top!

Mount Pisgah Arboretum also has trails designed for folks in wheelchairs. Check with the arboretum for specifics.
